Melotte invests in a new 3D metal printer manufactured by DMG Mori

Lasertec 30 DUAL SLM

As a pioneer in 3D metal printing since 2007, Melotte is proud to announce that it has recently invested in a new 3D metal printer manufactured by the company DMG Mori.

Melotte started 17 years ago with the 3D metal printing of dental protheses.Subsequently, the company has also been involved in printing frames for glasses and even jewelry. Nowadays, Melotte mainly focuses on the 3D printing of industrial parts, such as flow reactors, filter components, machine parts, etc.

At Melotte, we combine 3D metal printing with milling, turning, electro-erosion, and grinding, in order to reach the required tolerances and the final desired look. Melotte can assist you from project definition to the design and optimization of your CAD models all the way through to the successful implementation of 3D metal printing in your value chain.

The new 3D metal printer is a Lasertec 30 dual SLM manufactured by the company DMG Mori that is equipped with two 600-W fiber lasers. The build volume of the 3D metal printer is 300 mm x 300 mm x 350 mm.

If you have any questions regarding this new printer, please feel free to contact our team.

Solar panels at our company premises in Zonhoven

zonnepanelen

Sustainability and attention to our ecological and carbon footprint are an important part of our lives. Investing in green energy figures prominently in such a sustainable future.

As a company, we want to incorporate sustainability into all the actions we undertake. That’s why we’ve recently invested in 490 solar panels, accounting for a total capacity of 267 kWp or a production capacity of 238 MWh/year at our company premises in Zonhoven (Belgium).

By doing this, we are taking another step toward renewable energy.

Melotte produces newly-designed wheel house for the Innoptus Solar Team's solar car

screenshot solar team

Remember the Belgian Innoptus Solar Team? Well, Melotte once again collaborated this year on the Innoptus Solar Team’s latest solar car. To be more specific, among other things, Melotte produced the newly-designed wheel house and delivered it to very precise specifications.

About the Innoptus Solar Team

The Innoptus Solar Team is a team of Belgian engineering students that competes to build the most innovative and efficient solar car. They are the current world champions, having won races in Chile, Australia, and Belgium.

Next up on the agenda: the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge, which will run from October 22 – 29, 2023. It will cover a distance of more than 3,000 kilometers through the Australian Outback, from Darwin in the north of the country to Adelaide in the south.

About the newly-designed wheel house

This year, Melotte supported the Innoptus Solar Team with the production of the newly-designed wheel house. This wheel house will function as housing for the wheel system and as steering system for the active wheel cover system, which is one of the new technologies of the latest solar car.

Melotte’s newest milling machine, the Yasda PX30i, was used for the production of these parts. The Yasda PX30i makes it possible to manufacture even more unique and complex products that involve specific quality requirements.

Stay tuned

Stay tuned for more updates because in a few weeks, we’ll be publishing more pictures on our social media channels of the Melotte parts being mounted into the solar car.

Melotte launches position switch initiative to tempt young recruits

doedeswitch Alberto en Brandon

Melotte (Zonhoven) is launching an innovative recruitment campaign. The high-precision metal parts supplier is hoping to arouse interest in young candidates by offering a position switch initiative. "Each new employee will be assigned a mentor – and the roles will then be switched. The mentor will enter the world of the mentee - the master will become the apprentice. We’re using this “position switch” to encourage young people to make the switch to Melotte," confirms CEO Peter Perremans.

"Our order book is well-filled, but we're having a hard time getting enough people on board," explains Peter Perremans. "This has everything to do with the current war for talent.” Fewer young people are qualifying in fields that are relevant to us, in particular mechanical design techniques.

Gear up

"This is our first recruitment campaign," continues Peter Perremans. "We need an extra push, as we continue to face a staff shortage, despite the efforts we are currently making." Johan Selis, Operations Supervisor in charge of recruitment at Melotte adds: "That's correct. For a while we’ve participated in job fairs, organized site tours, and talked about the great work our people do – we’ve done that in trade magazines, on our website, and on social media. But we’ve still not managed to fill all of our current vacancies. So we’ve now decided to take our recruitment efforts to the next level."

The right stuff

"We’re looking for people living within a 30-km radius of Zonhoven, who enjoy working with metal and who have already had basic training in mechanical design techniques," Johan Selis clarifies. "Our employees mill, grind, turn, spark, and get to work with a 3D metal printer. They make and finish the precision parts that our customers, major international companies, need for their machines, robots, and motors. For us, the right stuff is in the mindset. It’s even more important than knowledge of the basics. It's all about wanting to keep learning - and helping to write Melotte's success story, together."

Time for a position switch

"With its 45 employees, Melotte is a typical Flemish SME. At Melotte, you’re not a number. We all know each other. We’re close to each other. And we are exploiting this concept to the full in this campaign. We value the talents that people already have and, with the right guidance from their personal mentors, we are giving them the opportunity to develop their talents further. In the first position switch, the senior colleague Alberto Angiolini enters the world of his pupil, Brandon Jooken. Brandon loves car tuning - not coincidentally a passion in which precision also plays a major role - and he is taking Alberto into his world. Check out the video of their position switch here. And stay tuned to Melotte's Facebook and LinkedIn channel to learn about the next position switches taking place."

Melotte invests in a new die sinking EDM machine

2023 nieuwe zinkvonker - LR

Melotte specializes in the manufacturing of parts with high precision, complex shapes, and special materials, and this is done in small quantities.

To realize this, we have an extensive machining department with various EDM machines. And in order to further strengthen our machine park, we recently invested in a new die sinking EDM machine: the “AgieCharmilles FORM X 600.” This machine belongs to the latest generation of die sinking EDMs. Its symmetrical structure, temperature stabilization, and positioning accuracy in the micron range make it possible to manufacture very precise parts.

The new die sinking EDM machine also features a new ISPG generator that ensures very good surface quality and low electrode wear.

Melotte invests in a new surface grinder

2023 nieuwe vlakslijper - LR

Melotte is specialized in the manufacture of high-precision parts. For this purpose, we have an extensive grinding department with various surface grinders, cylindrical grinders and coordinate grinders. To strengthen our grinding department, we have recently invested in an ELB surface grinder of the Smartline BL HYD XC-PRO type.

This machine has a working range of 1500 mm x 750 mm x 700 mm and is thus rather intended for surface grinding of large parts. The machine base is made of microgranite which guarantees ideal damping properties and good thermal stability.
